Old English Syntax Exercise

For each clause in the Tower of Babel passage, indicate the order of the main sentence elements: S (subject), V (verb), O (object).

For example, for the first clause:

Not every clause will have all three elements, and you can ignore all the others (adverbs, adjectives, prepositional phrases, etc.). In Old English, a verb alone can constitute a clause; it is the only essential element.


Make a special note of the clause structures that differ from Modern English.
